What is Physical Therapy?

 

Physical Therapy is a licensed health care profession that specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal as well as neurological conditions. A Physical Therapist’s hands-on approach allows them to examine, diagnose, and treat the immediate problem. Therapists teach you exercises and teach you how to use your body properly to gain strength and mobility and prevent recurring injuries. Treatment includes therapeutic exercise, manual therapy/massage, as well as the use of modalities (heat, cold, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, etc.). The treatment is focused towards returning the patient to their prior level of function and relieving pain in muscles, joints, and bones.

 

What conditions can be treated with Physical Therapy?

 

Most musculoskeletal and neurological conditions can be treated through physical therapy. This can range from pain, fractures, total joint replacements, sprains/strains to Parkinson’s disease and stroke. Conditions range anywhere from back/neck pain, shoulder and elbow pain, headaches, and lower extremity conditions including: hips, knees, ankles, and feet. 

 

Do I have a choice where to attend Physical Therapy?

 

Yes. As a patient you have the right to request the physical therapy clinic of your choice. You have a choice!

 

When should I begin Physical Therapy?

 

Physical Therapy treatment should begin as early as possible. Early treatment can help prevent conditions from becoming chronic or from affecting other areas of the body. Early treatment can also decrease the length of time needed in physical therapy and reduces healthcare costs.

 

Do I need a physician’s referral to see a physical therapist?

 

Yes and No. Idaho is a direct access state which means a physician referral is not required to receive physical therapy treatment. However, some insurance companies may require a physician’s referral.

 

Who will I work with in Physical Therapy?

 

We have four board certified physical therapists and two physical therapy assistants. Each of the members of our clinical staff are highly trained and educated in treating a wide-range of conditions and getting the best result possible for their patients. 

 

Will my insurance cover Physical Therapy?

 

We accept most insurance plans. Prior to your first visit we will call your insurance company to verify your insurance benefits. Upon arrival to your first visit, a patient care representative will review your outpatient physical therapy benefits with you and explain an estimate of your cost. 

 

What should I bring to my first visit?

 

You should bring your insurance card and photo ID. If you had surgery, any operative, MRI, and x-ray reports are very beneficial. In general, the wearing of comfortable clothing that will allow you to move around is best. 

 

I was just involved in a motor vehicle accident, can you help me?

 

Yes. You may have numerous muscle and ligament injuries resulting from your accident. If not properly treated these injuries can stay with you for years, and may progressively worsen over time.

 

How long are normal treatments at Pinnacle Physical Therapy?

 

A normal session usually lasts 60-90 minutes. This depends on your condition, progression, and schedule. Our therapists are very concerned with getting the most out each treatment so length of treatment can vary.

 

Do I have to follow my prescribed treatment* set by my therapist and doctor?

 

Yes. Your physician and therapist will set a treatment plan that they feel will allow you the best opportunity to rid you of your condition and/or pain. Each visit is critical to your recovery. The more you’re here the quicker you will get better. Your therapist will make a commitment to you and we ask the same of you in return.

 

*Prescribed Treatment: the plan of treatment that is set forth by your physician and your therapist.

 

Who do I speak to about insurance questions?

 

Our Accounts Manager will answer any of your billing and insurance questions. She has over 15 years of medical billing experience. We are very confident that patients are not wrongfully billed and we rarely have a problem. A patient care representative will review you benefits on your first visit and answer any subsequent questions you may have. You are encouraged to contact Liz, our office manager, if you have any further concerns.

 

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

 

Please remember that an appointment means that we have reserved that time especially for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please give us at least 24 hours notice. 

 

How is my progress measured?

 

Your progress is an ongoing process as your therapist will be evaluating you during each session to quantify this progress. Your progress will be noted and sent to your referring physician, primary care physician, insurance company, and case manager (if applicable). Although your physical therapist will continually track your progress, each week we will ask for an update on your treatment in your own words. Patient Success Stories give you the opportunity to give us an update on your condition and your therapy. We encourage you to fill one out once a week.
