Falling affects hundreds of thousands of people each year and it can be an enormous cost financially, emotionally, and functionally. Thankfully, there is an answer! Our team of balance experts are able to help you regain confidence in walking through a comprehensive 6-week program.

Our primary goal is to help our patients to improve balance and normalize gait patterns to promote safety while walking and performing daily activities.

 

Phase 1

Phase 1 (Weeks 1-2)

  • Evaluation of fall risk or balance impairment

  • Find your specific weaknesses

  • Develop a plan of care just for you

  • Begin strengthening protocol

Goals:

  1. Develop your personal goals

  2. “Wake up” muscles that help you balance

  3. Improve body/postural awareness


Phase 2 (Weeks 3-4)

  • Progress with core and lower extremity strength training

  • Recovery activities (how to get up if you fall)

  • Coordination and balance activities

  • Endurance training

Goals:

  1. Improve postural strength and endurance

  2. Learn how to get up safely from a fall

  3. Gain stability on your feet

Phase 3 (Weeks 5-6)

  • Advanced balance training

  • Upper body strength training

  • Further progression of core and lower body strengthening

  • Reassessment

Goals:

  1. Build confidence during functional activities

  2. Determine if further care is needed

  3. Develop a maintenance home exercise program
